Inspect chassis, engine hours, service history, roof and seal integrity, water damage, appliances, plumbing and electrical systems. Test drive for handling and check tires, brakes and suspension.

Match size to your towing/parking limits, driving comfort and sleeping needs. Prioritize layout for kitchen, bathroom and storage; consider weight and payload versus gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).

Smaller motorhomes are usually driven to destination. For long-distance moves use professional vehicle transporters on flatbeds or specialized RV carriers; secure permits for oversize loads if needed.

Ensure title transfer, registration and inspection per local laws. Obtain RV insurance covering liability, collision and contents; consider roadside assistance and gap coverage for financed purchases.

Regular engine service, oil and filter changes, brake and suspension checks. Maintain habitation systems: winterize plumbing, service water heater, check seals, test batteries and run appliances periodically.

Look for soft or discolored flooring, musty odors, warped cabinetry, bubbling paint or stains around windows and roof seams. Use a moisture meter and inspect roof seals and slide seals closely.
