Air circuit breakers (ACB) are high-capacity electrical protection devices used to switch and protect low- to medium-voltage power distribution systems. They interrupt fault currents using air as the arc-quenching medium and combine adjustable protection, metering and trip units in one frame. ACBs are common in industrial plants, utility switchgear and large commercial installations where high fault current interruption, selective protection and easy maintenance are required.
Verify rated voltage, current, breaking capacity (kA), trip unit type, mechanical condition, service history, test reports (secondary injection, insulation), and availability of spare parts and firmware updates.
Drain fluids if required, secure moving parts, pack in a rigid crate with vibration padding, control humidity, label orientation, use a carrier experienced in switchgear, and insure against transit damage.
Perform visual inspections, clean contacts, check contact wear and resistance, exercise mechanisms, test trip units and protection settings annually or per load profile, and keep detailed logs.
