Edge sanders are stationary or portable machines designed to smooth, shape, and finish the edges of wood, MDF, and panel products. They use abrasive belts, discs, or drums to remove material quickly and produce consistent edge profiles, chamfers, or radiuses. Common in cabinet shops and panel production, edge sanders improve fit and surface quality before assembly or finishing, and often integrate dust collection for cleaner operation.
Check motor condition, drive belts, sanding drums/belts, table squareness, dust extraction ports, electrical controls, and replaceable wear parts. Run the machine to listen for bearing noise and verify vibration, and request maintenance records and serial number for parts lookup.
Secure moving parts, remove or lock sanding belts/discs, protect exposed surfaces, crate or palletize the unit, and note weight and dimensions. Use a carrier experienced with woodworking machinery, confirm forklift points, and insure the shipment against damage.
Regularly change abrasive belts, check and grease bearings, align tables and fences, clean or replace dust filters, inspect drive belts and motors, and keep a log of operating hours. Replace worn drums or platen surfaces and follow manufacturer service intervals.
