Description
Flame Photometer
Flame photometer is an analytical instrument based on the basic principle of emission spectroscopy. It consists of:a gas and flame combustion section, an optical section, a photoelectric converter and a detection and recording section. The process is to spray the specimen into the flame by the atomiser, excite the luminescence, and measure the emission intensity by the detector after spectroscopy, the latter being proportional to the content of the element to be measured in the specimen. For example:When salt is placed in a flame photometer, the flame is yellow, which is due to the outer electron of the sodium atom in salt absorbing the thermal energy of the flame, and jumping to the excited energy level, and then from the excited energy level back to the normal state, the electron is going to release energy. This energy is characterised by the emission of a circular colour spectrum of wavelengths characteristic of sodium atoms. The heat of a flame is used to excite the atoms of an element to emit light, and an instrument is used to detect the intensity of its spectral energy and thus determine the level of content of an element in a substance, this type of instrument is called a flame photometer. Today's more advanced flame photometers can be used for simultaneous analysis of multiple elements and have an integrated design with a built-in air compressor and software recording.
