Tipper vans are light commercial vans fitted with a hydraulic tipping bed or flatbed that tilts to unload loose materials, waste, or small equipment quickly. They combine the maneuverability of a van with payload flexibility for landscaping, construction, and municipal work. Look at payload, chassis gross vehicle weight, bed dimensions, hoist type, and service history when choosing a used unit.
Check payload vs. GVW, chassis and frame condition (rust, welds), hoist/ram operation, hydraulic hoses and seals, bed floor and hinges, service records, PTO or electric pump fitment, and that axle and tyre ratings suit your loads.
Use a low-loader or flatbed truck. Lower and lock the bed, secure the van with wheel chocks and rated straps, protect exposed hydraulics, and ensure transport complies with vehicle size/weight rules for routes and terminals.
Regularly check hydraulic fluid, hoses, seals and rams; grease pins and hinges; inspect bed floor and anti-corrosion coatings; maintain brakes, suspension and tyres; and follow the manufacturer’s service intervals for pump and PTO components.
