Isolation transformers provide electrical separation between the supply and the load to reduce electrical noise, prevent ground loops, and improve personnel and equipment safety. Common in industrial and control applications, they come in dry or oil-filled designs, single- or three-phase, and a wide range of kVA ratings. They protect sensitive electronics and stabilize power for panels, drives, and mobile equipment charging.
Check kVA rating, primary/secondary voltages, phase, impedance, insulation condition, nameplate details and test records. Verify oil condition for oil-filled units, look for corrosion or damage, and request recent ratio and insulation resistance tests.
Use a carrier experienced with heavy electrical gear, secure lifting points and skids, drain oil if required and comply with hazmat rules for oil-filled units. Crate or brace the unit, label weight and center of gravity, and insure for transit.
Perform visual checks monthly, tighten connections and inspect bushings yearly, carry out insulation resistance and turns-ratio tests annually, do oil sampling and treatment per manufacturer intervals, and use thermography for load checks.
